Meet “Sirius”

Who can give Sirius a forever indoor home?  He’s ready to go!  This handsome Russian Blue-looking boy showed up about 17 days ago at an apartment building in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. Luckily he picked a good open slider door to strut into and demand food….

Two years ago, we helped one of our dearest supporters/friends/human-heroes, Darlene, with a very feral, handicapped kitty she had been feeding for a while, GreyGhost (more about GreyGhost’s story below*).

Unfortunately, Sirius made GreyGhost uncomfortable and is a bit/lot of a piglet, so he ate all of GreyGhost’s premium food. Darlene asked if we could help. We decided it made sense to try to drop trap the Russian Blue-looking kitty and figure out why he suddenly appeared – we didn’t know at the time that he was ear-tipped. He is so full of charisma and chutzpah we thought perhaps he had just escaped from his home/might be chipped. **MICROCHIP YOUR CATS**

After an evening of laying our stomachs, waiting for him to go into the trap, we finally got him. It turns out Sirius is extremely sweet, about 1-2 years old, very friendly, handsome, neutered (not chipped) and his ear had been clipped by the San Diego Humane Society.  Then the Humane Society did their usual, and he was booted back out on the street to play in traffic or whatever, not their problem since he wasn’t chipped or wearing a collar.  We’ve posted on FB, NextDoor, and tried to find his original owners to no avail (please share if you are located in the Mission Valley area of San Diego if you think we can find his original owners – this boy is too much of a love muffin to have been raised on the streets. He probably just got his testosterone on and escaped – that’s why we always spay/neuter our rescue cats, hormones make trouble).

He is soooo friendly! He let his new foster mama bathe him and clip his toenails the first night he was transported from us to her in Anaheim. He now wears a collar. Poses for pictures with her child. Purrs and loves and rubs. Great with the litter box. We updated his boosters just in case – but he is a handsome healthy neutered boy with Russian Blue style-tight fur, green eyes, a white star and a white tummy.

Sirius, named after the character Sirius from the Harry Potter series, is looking for his forever home. We do not know how he is fur-sure with other cats (although he didn’t ever chase or act aggressively toward GreyGhost) or dogs, but he does well with calm children and felt right at home where ever he found an open door and some food.

** He had a previous adopter. He has a habit of being a bit of a night owl … And he LOVES to talk. Chatter. Ask Questions. So we are working through how to keep him awake during the day and stop telling stories at night. He isn’t howling or trying to get out or being naughty – just like most cats, he tends toward nocturnal. BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS … we’ve learned he is OK with dogs. He IS great with other cats. He just likes to talk, sort of like a parrott:

If you say meooooow. He says MEEOOWWWW.

If you say mew-mew… he says mew-mew.

He prefers to end every quiet meow with a question mark – we are trying to learn to talk cat. He is trying his best to teach us. It is a learning experience – do you talk cat?

Located in San Diego, CA with http://joannesfurryfriend.com. If you are nearby and would like to do a trial to see how he works out, we are always happy to take our cats back if it isn’t the right fit. Plus for the right home, we are willing to drive/fly him just about anywhere in the US – INDOOR ONLY please.

**GreyGhost’s Story: About 2 years ago via NextDoor, we got a call from Darlene that there was a very injured kitty she had been feeding – could we help? Luckily we were able to trap him the very first day (maybe because she feeds him filet mignon and shrimp… but, whatever the case, trapping was easy). We had GreyGhost neutered, his broken hip x-rayed, shots etc. Between our rescue and our vet’s office, it was decided he was feral enough he couldn’t be amputated and treated humanely, but the break was a year or more old and with all the love Darlene shows him morning and night for his drop in feedings (apparently he makes the rounds on 3.5 legs) – he’s lived a very good two years.  He is the poster boy-errr-I-mean-senior of the apartment complex.
