Meet “Tau”
🐾✨ Remember Tau? ✨🐾
🎅 In December 2024, Tau was one of our adorable Christmas kittens, proudly modeling a Santa hat while searching for his forever home. He was adopted into what seemed like a wonderful family with two other cats. We even received updates and photos, and it looked like he was living the happy ending every rescue hopes for. ❤️
📞 Then, two weeks ago, I received a call from the Oceanside Humane Society.
Thank goodness I was still listed on his microchip. 🙏
💔 Tau had been relinquished by his owner.
I immediately drove to Oceanside to bring him home. Shelter staff warned me that he had been housed in the kitten room and was frightened and shut down. He still leaned into chin scratches, but his spark was gone. It was heartbreaking to see the confident, happy kitten we once knew looking so scared and uncertain. 😢
The good news? 🥰 Tau’s purr came back.
The bad news? 🤧 Shortly after coming home, he developed an upper respiratory infection, likely from exposure while at the shelter. After 10 days of doxycycline, he’s healthy again and back to being the affectionate purr machine we remember. 🎉
When I finally connected with the adopter, she explained that her son had gone away to college, she wanted more time to travel ✈️, and she no longer had time for Tau. She couldn’t remember which rescue she had adopted him from and had surrendered him to the shelter instead of contacting us.
We don’t know what happened to the other two cats in the household because they weren’t adopted through our rescue, and we have no way to obtain information about them. 😔
💡 This is why microchips matter.
💡 This is why we always tell adopters: if life changes, call us.
🏡 We will always take our cats back.
Now Tau needs a second chance. ❤️
Despite everything he’s been through, he remains one of the sweetest cats you’ll ever meet. He loves people, purrs constantly, gets along with other cats, and still has that goofy, lovable personality that made everyone fall in love with him as a kitten. 🖤🐈
🚨 And right now, we desperately need to find him a home. We have an ear-tipped mama cat and five older kittens waiting for rescue, and the manager of the property where they’re living has threatened to “make them disappear.” We need space to help them, but first we need to help Tau.
